Urbanization is one of the most significant human demographic trends in today’s world.  Now, more people live in urban areas than rural areas – with 54% of the world population living in cities, up from 30% in 1950.[1]http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf http://esa.un.org/unpd/wup/highlights/wup2014-highlights.pdf  This number is expected to rise to 66% by 2050 and as high as 90% by the end of the century.  As the world continues to urbanize, sustainable development challenges will be increasingly concentrated in cities, particularly in the lower-middle-income countries where the pace of urbanization is fastest. This episode of Energy Voices will give listeners an overview of what a sustainable city means environmentally, economically, and socially.
